The Neck Ring
1. To make the neck ring, cut three pieces of string 25 to 30 inches long. Holding the three pieces together, make a "quick knot" about three inches from the end.
Pull the knot tight. Then braid the three pieces until you have enough braided string to go around the neck of the gourd (about 12 to 15 inches of braid, depending on the size of the gourd.)
End the braided section with another "quick knot." You should now have a braid with a knot at each end. Tie the three loose strings on one end to the three loose strings on the other. This completes the ring. Cut off the extra string.
