Christmas on Silver Pond

Where in the Story

Mr. Appleton, the town baker, had given Sue Ann a gingerbread cookie containing an unusual ingredient—sugar that sparkled when he poured it from the bag. Sue Ann ate the cookie, just before falling asleep, while thinking about the dolls in her room. That night, in a vivid dream, her dolls became real and she danced with them.

Wondering if the sparkle sugar had something to do with it, Sue Ann decided to share a second gingerbread cookie with her friends. They each took a piece, agreeing to eat it just before falling asleep, and to think about the toys in the Toy Shoppe.

That night, the friends all woke up to find themselves in another magical dream, and the toys in the Toy Shoppe had come to life!

______________

Historical note: This original Christmas play (script by Leigh Ross and Steve Mugglin, music by Steve Mugglin) was first performed by the Ocean Grove Children's Show in the summer of 1991. One of the participants, a young girl playing the part of Mrs. Appleton (the baker's wife), grew up to become the director of the Children's Show. She asked to bring back the story for the 2010 Winter Drama Workshop.

First presented in the summer of 1991, Christmas on Silver Pond is an imaginative Christmas play, sharing the story of a young girl named Sue Ann, and what happened to her one cold December in the little town of Silver Pond.

In the story, Mr. Appleton, the town baker, gave Sue Ann a gingerbread cookie containing an unusual ingredient—sugar that sparkled when he poured it from the bag.

Song - March of the Toys

The girl in red is a China doll
The senorita arrived from Spain
Just to the right is a little maid from Hong Kong
Next to the model trains

Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
It doesn't matter where you're made
Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
Join the parade!

Up on the shelf there's a doll house from England
Beside the doll house a book about cars
And further on there's a bright red telescope
So you can see the stars

Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
It doesn't matter where you're made
Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
Join the parade!

There's something here for every boy, every girl
who likes to play with toys from faraway lands
We bring you toys from the USA, Canada
Europe, Asia, India, Africa, Japan
And many other lands
And all the toys we have were painted by hand

Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
It doesn't matter where you're made
Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
Join the parade!

Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
It doesn't matter where you're made
Every little toy in the Toy Shoppe
Join the parade!
Come join the parade!
Come join___ the parade!
