"Another Place and Time"

Duet: Tiger Lily and Wendy
Ocean Grove Children's Show 2016
Peter Pan

Where in the Story

Tension is in the air. Captain Hook and the pirates are on the move, and Tiger Lily senses they will soon attack. After sending Tinker Bell to see where the pirates are, Tiger Lily is left alone for a few minutes with Wendy. They sit down by the water's edge and talk about their different worlds.

Tiger Lily sensed that an attack was imminent: the footsteps of the pirates were all over the beach. It was late at night, but a soft call on a flute was enough to bring Tinker Bell. Wendy was with her.

Tiger Lily
Tinker Bell, thank you for coming. Wendy?

Wendy
Everyone else was asleep. What is it?

Tiger Lily
It’s the Pirates. For some time they’ve been distant. Tonight they are close.

Wendy
Where?

Tiger Lily
Along the shoreline, not far away. Tinker Bell, would you fly through the woods, see where the Pirates are, and then go back to where my people are waiting? Tell them what you find.

(Tinker Bell exits. There is a short silence. Then, as the conversation begins again, they sit down near the water’s edge and look out across the bay.)

Tiger Lily
Wendy, tell me, what is your world like? The one you came from.

Wendy
It’s a big world. Bigger, I think, than this one. But we’re not as close to the stars.

Tiger Lily
Do you like it here?

Wendy
(thoughtfully) I like being a mother to the Lost Boys. They need one. But I worry about Peter. Will he never grow up?

Tiger Lily
I don’t think he ever will. Does everyone grow up in your world?

Wendy
They do. One day a child listens to Dad or Mom reading a story. Years go by, and that child reads the same story to his or her own children. Is it not that way here?

Tiger Lily
Time flows in a different way here. Tell me, are you going to go back to your own world?

Wendy
I suppose. I haven’t had much time to think about it yet.

Tiger Lily
When you do go back... I’m going to miss you.

Song #13 - Another Place and Time
Tiger Lily
(spoken) Wendy, may I ask a question...
What’s it like to live in a world where
children grow up strong and tall
What’s it like to be in a place where
when the morning comes you’ve moved one day on

Wendy
I don’t know—I haven’t thought about it much
It’s always been that way for me
But when you ask the question then… I see
It’s like we live in different storybooks
You in your world, and I in mine

Tiger Lily and Wendy
Do you think we might have been friends forever
If we were both in another place and time

Wendy
(spoken) Tiger Lily, may I ask a question...
What’s it like to live in a world where
the part you’ve played before you play again
What’s it like to be in a place where
you go back to the beginning when you reach the end

Tiger Lily
I don’t know—I haven’t thought about it much
It’s always been that way for me
But when you ask the question then… I see
It’s like we live in different storybooks
You in your world, and I in mine

Tiger Lily and Wendy
Do you think we might have been friends forever
If we were both in another place and time

Tiger Lily
Wendy, I think the Pirates are about to attack. If they do, promise me you’ll stay in the underground home until you hear the sound of the victory drums. Will you promise?

Wendy
(spoken) Yes... (pause) Tiger Lily...
I think we would have been friends forever…

Tiger Lily and Wendy
If we were both in another place…
another place… and time
