Creating Chess Illustrations
The first step is to download the thirty images. There are four border images,
and the six different pieces (King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, Pawn) are each
pictured on both a dark square and a light square. In other words, each piece is
attached to its square. This adds up to twelve pictures for the white (gold) pieces,
and another 12 for the black (orange) pieces. Two more images are included for
squares that are not occupied, one dark square and one light square... total 30.
Download the Thirty Images
Each square is 60x60 pixels. You may assemble them in an art editing program
and save the final picture, or you may do as is done here - store the 30 pictures
on your web site, and call them up in a table. If you use the table, here is the html
code. Simply replace A8 with bR (if the black Rook is on A8), B8 with bN (if the
black Knight is on B8, etc.) If the square is not occupied, erase the "A8" or "B8"
but leave the onw or onb there to indicate a light or dark square. Each picture is
named **onw or **onb to indicate its background. (bRonb indicates black Rook
on a black square, etc.)
